Grants and funding for heat pumps in Scotland
Scottish Government grants and funding schemes may be available to help with the cost of a heat pump. Here is what exists, how it works, and what you need to know.
Scottish Government grant support
The Scottish Government offers grants and funding schemes to support energy efficiency improvements and low-carbon heating in Scottish homes. These schemes are designed to help owner-occupiers and private tenants reduce their heating costs and carbon emissions.

VAT relief on heat pump installation
Zero percent VAT applies to qualifying domestic heat pump installations until 31 March 2027, as set by HMRC. This reduces the total cost of your installation and applies automatically — you do not need to apply for it separately.
Smart Export Guarantee
If your system includes solar panels that export surplus electricity to the grid, the Smart Export Guarantee pays roughly 4p to 25p per kWh depending on your supplier and tariff. This is a separate scheme from grant funding and is administered by your electricity supplier.
